What's New Chief Standing Bear Celebration This year marks the 130th anniversary of the Chief Standing Bear Trial in which the court ruled that American Indians "are persons within the meaning of the law." On May 12 the federal courthouse in Omaha hosted a special proceeding to commemorate this important case and to dedicate a permanent display. The Library has also created a traveling display on this subject.
